Nomadic Light

by Katharina Eisenkoeck

EKDESIGN is a design studio founded by Katharina Eisenkoeck. The revival of traditional craft techniques brought into a new context is a vital part in Eisenkoeck’s work. Her approach to design is a very personal one; the manufacturing process of the design objects, the refining and finishing are crucial to her. By experimenting with materials and shapes, she offers objects that are both long lasting and unique in terms of design. EKDESIGN is currently based in London (UK), where Eisenkoeck manufactures all her products by hand.

Nomadic light is a portable lamp crafted out of leather and concrete. A warm white LED light shines from a lightweight concrete base around which there is a leather strap that meanders around the concrete base that makes the lamp transportable. The fusion of the materials with a specially designed charging method transforms Nomadic Light into a multifunctional lamp. The lamp can be suspended or placed depending on preference. The lights are charged on an accompanying shelf, which automatically charges the lamp once it is placed on it.
